ExxonMobil, the largest oil company in the United States, will become the largest natural gas producer and the fourth largest crude oil and condensate producer in the United States after spending $41 billion to acquire XTO energy, the largest natural gas producer in the United States Company.
According to a recent annual report submitted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, ExxonMobil will produce 6.1% of the country's total natural gas production and own 9.6% of the country's total natural gas reserves, the EIA said.
The EIA said the world's largest listed company will produce 5.3% of the total U.S. oil production and own 7% of the total U.S. oil reserves.
Exxon Mobil said on December 14 that it would use $41 billion to acquire XTO energy, based in Fort Worth, Texas, which has huge unconventional gas reserves.
