China imported 59.77 million tons of crude oil from January to April, up 9.8%

From January to April this year, China's import of crude oil increased by 9.8% over the same period last year, while its export of refined oil fell by 7.8% over the same period last year. This shows that while the growth rate of China's crude oil demand has slightly fallen, the shortage of domestic refined oil is still continuing. Unnamed sources told Dow Jones news agency that China imported 59.77 million tons of crude oil from January to April, an increase of 9.8% over the same period of last year, and 12.68 million tons of refined oil over the same period, an increase of 9.2%. In April, 14.24 million tons of crude oil and 3.6 million tons of refined oil were imported. The source also said that China's exports of crude oil from January to April were 800000 tons, down 25.2%; and its exports of refined oil over the same period were 4.84 million tons, down 7.8% from the same period last year. In April, China exported 230000 tons of crude oil and 1230000 tons of refined oil. In 2007, China imported 163 million tons of crude oil, an increase of 12.4% over the previous year; in 2007, China imported 33.8 million tons of refined oil, a decrease of 7.1% over the previous year. Meanwhile, in 2007, China exported 3.89 million tons of crude oil, down 38.6% from the previous year, and 15.51 million tons of refined oil, up 25.6% from the previous year.
